279769, 279816, SET197 Dryer Thermostat and Fuse Kits

Whirlpool (and Sears Kenmore) electric dryers usually have a high limit thermostat and a thermal fuse on the aluminum element housing. Three kits (279769, 279816 and SET197) account for almost every Whirlpool built dryer in operation today.  Here’s how to tell which one you need.

If your dryer uses a 3387747  or 4391960 heating element (click on the part number to see a picture of the element) then you will probably need kit # 279769.  If your dryer uses a 279838 heating element, you will need our replacement for 279816 # SET197.

The SET197 kit we offer is growing in popularity because it includes the 3977767 (L250-80) thermostat along with the fuse. This way, you don’t have to use the jumper wire in the 279816 kit. Below is a picture of the SET197 kit.
