Normally we see lint screens being replaced when the screen itself is punctured or torn but there is a new issue with this particular screen- part # 1314550300 (used in many front load Frigidaire dryers). Apparently, when some items are in the dryer they can hang on the edge of this lint screen and twist around it. This is especially true of clothes with ties that can come out (swimsuits, gym shorts, etc) and catch the lint screen frame. The torque on the lint screen can cause the frame to actually bend… which opens up a larger gap for clothes to be trapped while spinning and… when the larger clothes get stuck there they actually yank the lint screen up enough to pop the dryer door open and shut off the machine.
This may or may not be a critical issue. If caught, it’s no big deal (especially if the dryer is located in an air conditioned environment). However, if this happens early in the cycle and no one is paying attention to the dryer (especially if the dryer is located in a warm laundry room), everything in it can begin to sour.
Once bent, we don’t know of an easy fix for this lint screen beside replacement.
