In recent years, when someone called needing a water filter for a GE or Hotpoint refrigerator our sales team knew immediately what they were looking for 99% of the time. That’s because almost all the General Electric built refrigerators either used the MWF filter or the MSWF filter. But we knew such simplicity wouldn’t last forever. GE has brought a new filter to market, mainly in their premium bottom-freezer models: the RPWF.
If you landed here searching for this filter, click the following link for price and availability: RPWF water filter.
The RPWF filter catches all the normal toxins and turbidity just like you’d expect a high quality filter to perform. It wipes out chlorine and dangerous metals. It also serves to protect your family’s water and ice from 98% of 5 trace pharmaceuticals (a growing concern): Ibuprofen, Atenolol, Fluoxetine, Progesterone and Trimethoprim.
GE recommends replacing this filter every 6 months. This is not a bad idea. To help you remember when it’s time to replace your water filter, you can include it in your regular routine of changing the clocks (if you’re in an area with daylight savings time) or you can use the seasons as a reminder. It is possible, if the water in your area is very clean, that you could go longer than 6 months inbetween changes… I like to make my mistakes on the safe side though!
